Syd Field

Without the advice and support of my former instructors, I wouldn't be at Brightlight Pictures... I went into school with the attitude that it was a year-long job interview.
Marc Fredette

Development & Production Assistant, Brightlight Pictures
My training at VFS has been quite relevant... I never thought I'd be writing new media content. It's fun because it's taking what I learned at VFS to a whole other level.
Alanna Vopni

I loved workshopping with writers at VFS - I loved working on other people's scripts as well as my own. There's something about being in a room with 12-13 brains all working on a creative solution that's pretty exhilarating. I really miss doing that.
Adam Zang

Most importantly, VFS put me into a collaborative environment with other writers, which is a major part of my job. If you can't work effectively as part of a writing team, you won't go very far in this - or any - creative field.
Andrew Kemp

The immersive nature of the writing program at VFS was critical to my identity as a burgeoning writer.
Angelo Eidse

I'm very grateful to have been taught the finer points of working within the film biz, and not just the mechanics of screenwriting... It all contributes to make you an informed and well-rounded screenwriter, so that when you're out there in that big room, waving your arms around shouting "Choose me! Choose me!" you're standing well above the rest of the rabble.

The writing program at Vancouver Film School is total immersion in the storytelling process. From the first day of their first class, students are writing and learning to critique each other's work in the same way that professional writers work in the industry. The school really functions like a studio in that everything you need to make films is available and accessible, first and foremost being instructors who bring their current and topical experience into the classroom on a daily basis. An enterprising storyteller can complete the program with a formidable portfolio as well as a finished short film, plus write and produce sketch comedy and live improvisational performance. VFS is a terrific place to start or develop a career in writing for film or television.

VFS encourages you to write and write fast. Where else can you end up with two feature-length scripts, two TV spec scripts, two short film scripts, a produced sketch, and a produced short film under your arm in just one year? And that's only for starters.

My VFS experience prepared me for this move by making me certain about who I was. I wouldn't have come [to LA] if I were not extremely sure of what I was about.
